Released in 1995 on the Super Famicom, Kat’s Run is a racing game populated by a veritable who’s who of 1990s kei cars. Must find ROM immediately!
As a “JDM” only title us Westerners weren’t able to razz around in 16 bit recreations of Autozam AZ-1s or Minica Dangan ZZ-4s back in the day, but that’s OK – maybe it’s better to have discovered this obscure 20 year old game when I’m lucky enough to have one of the cars featured in it parked in my garage. An 11 year old me certainly couldn’t have said that 🙂
Although the game is good fun to play it was really the vehicle list – and the resulting adorable sprites – that drew me in, so much so that I ended up messing around in SNES9x to extract each spinning kei car as a little gif.
Sad? Yes. Fun? Totally.
I don’t imagine there are many people around the world looking for gifs of the kei jidosha from Kat’s Run: Zen-Nippon K Car Senshuken but if you’re one of them and you’ve found this little page on the internet – enjoy!

P.S. The soundtrack is pretty 16-bit-tastic too, and it’s available in full on YouTube – here’s a snippet of the Select Screen track:
